The Making of the Movie “Cotton Club” Part II Playboy magazine Model, Sexual Games, Abuse and Rape

Melonie Haller is an actress best known for her role as Angie Globagoski on the television comedy series Welcome Back, Kotter during its third season (1977–78). In 1980, She was hoping to get her acting career back on track.  Needless to say, that never happened.

On April 12–13, 1980, Haller attended a dinner party at the SouthamptonLong Island home of film producer Roy Radin. Haller had been introduced to Radin by photographer Ronald Sisman,[3] and visited his home hoping to forward her stalled acting career.

The day after the party, Haller was discovered on a commuter train to Manhattan, unconscious and bloodied. She claimed to have been beaten and raped during the party at Radin’s home, and further alleged that the crimes had been filmed by Radin and/or others in attendance.[3][4] Radin claimed that Haller had consented to sexual games during the party.[4]

Robert McKeage of Manhattan, pleaded guilty to second-degree assault.  Under a plea bargaining arrangement, it was agreed that Mr. McKeage would receive probation.

Mr. McKeage told the court that, after beating Miss Haller, he drove her to the Long Island Rail Road station in Southampton and put her on a Manhattan-bound train. Barry Feldman, an assistant district attorney, said the plea would spare Miss Haller from having to travel from her home in California to testify at a trial. He added that Mr. McKeage was being sued for damages by Miss Haller in Federal Court in Brooklyn.

Roy’s predilection for wild sex parties that featured whips, chains, drugs and alcohol was bad for business.  His New York entertainment business was going under for him, he needed something new and big… he wanted to be involved in the film production of The Cotton Club. He met Karen DeLayne “Laney” Jacobs in January 1983…
