If a quarterback’s best buddy is a great wide receiver, Bastrop’s signal-caller Josiah Monroe and wide receiver Robert (Buddy) Nunn must be inseparable. In a stunning 42-27 win over previously unbeaten Pflugerville Connally last week, Nunn had a career night, grabbing an incredible 11 balls for 265 yards and a pair of scores, including a 69-yarder in the fourth quarter which sealed the deal. Injured most of last season (broken ankle), Nunn has stepped up big time for the 6-2 (3-1 district) Bears, averaging 26 yards every time he touches the ball.
A key member of the Bastrop track team, Buddy carries a strong B average. Assisting his grandmother, a pastor in Bastrop, Nunn is particularly involved in the Family Crisis Center, which deals with domestic violence issues.
“I’ve rarely seen a kid work as hard as Buddy did during the spring,” says Coach Gerald Perry. “Coming off his injury in ’09 and with the great set of receivers already on our roster, he knew that he’d have to put in a major off-season effort—and he did. When you combine his impressive speed with his great work ethic, you knew he’d blossom in his senior year.”
